Minimalist Habits: The Timer Trick

If you’re in a productivity rut and find it hard to get motivated, I swear by this minimalist tip. I call it: ‘20 minute magic’ or ‘tidy in 20.’ Set the timer for 20 minutes and go! It works every time.

Whether you need to de-junk the junk drawer, put back those misplaced items, or a quick decluttering session, it doesn’t matter the task. Prioritize doing this one thing for an uninterrupted 20 minutes. Bonus if you put on your favorite podcast or playlist to make the task fun and attractive. It goes by so quickly when you’re in the zone.

Start small, start somewhere, but whatever you do START.

I don't care how busy you are, we all have 20 minutes. When we prioritize the white space in our homes, it's so much easier to reinforce those habits that create the minimalist lifestyle.

The timer trick helps to create small wins. When we experience the small wins it gives us momentum to keep going. I promise it’s a ripple effect, even if it’s just one drawer at a time.
