How Simplifying My Wardrobe Changed My Mornings

A Simple Closet = Minimal Mornings

I had a realization this week while standing in my closet. As I put away the last of my seasonal clothes (yes I know it’s nearly November, but I’m hanging on to every last ray of sunshine in the PNW, and also life happens and that’s ok!), I noticed how much mental energy our closets require. Like, what do I wear today that’s not just sweats/athleisure? How do I build outfits with what I already have? Do the pieces I own reflect my signature style? There are so many facets of getting dressed from the pieces, closet space, and lifestyle, to considering the climate, shopping strategy, oh and don’t forget occasion/vacation/travel.

It reminded me of two things:

A) Building a curated closet takes time. It’s taken me years to develop my signature style and build an intentional wardrobe, but it’s been the key to unlocking my mornings (no more swirling on what to wear thanks to quality pieces that mix and match).

and,

B) How we often hold onto things just in case—but how much lighter and freer we feel when we finally let go. It’s amazing how simplifying one part of your life, even something as small as a closet, can have such a ripple effect.

Often what happens with my capsule clients is I help edit and curate their closet, and it feels so good they hire me back to minimize another space in their home. Or even better, receiving messages and texts that they copy/pasted my framework to live out the minimalist lifestyle. YES! My mission as your Minimalist Coach is to help you apply these principles to your life, so that you can pursue more of what matters.

Minimalist Tip:

The "One-In, Two-Out" Rule — Every time you bring in a new item, let go of 2 items. Ruthless I know, but this keeps your wardrobe from growing out of control and helps you be more intentional about what you bring into your life. It’s a small habit that, over time, creates lasting change.

Remember, minimalism isn’t about doing it all at once.

Whether you’re simplifying your wardrobe, decluttering your home, or adopting mindful habits, it’s about progress, not perfection. Celebrate every step you take toward creating a space—and a life—that feels more intentional and aligned with what you truly value.

You’ve got this! Keep going, one small step at a time.

Are you ready to simplify more areas of your life?

I’d love to hear what you’re working on decluttering or how you’re embracing minimalism. Connect with me on Instagram @thejoyfulminimalist to share your journey!
