Empty counters. There’s something visually calming with clutter-free surfaces.

3 kids (under 8), a husband, and puppy

Look I get it. I have the privilege of sharing our home with my beautiful family of 5 plus the most adorable cavapoo puppy named Penelope (Nell for short) — and with that said, every member comes with stuff. The daily clutter that ends up on my kitchen island is real. Homework, folders, lunch boxes, art projects, insert ‘anything that doesn’t belong’ here. Can you relate? Thankfully we have simple systems and daily habits that make tidying and reseting our space fairly easy.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by clutter, you’re not alone. Whether it’s a closet stuffed with clothes you no longer wear or a kitchen overflowing with gadgets, clutter can make it difficult to find peace in your own home. But here's the good news—you can tackle it, and you don’t have to do it all at once.

The key to starting is to focus on one step at a time. Instead of thinking about decluttering your entire home, let’s make it manageable.

Minimalist Tip:

Start with a Simple Strategy — Keep it super minimal and try one of the below strategies today. Schedule in your calendar and follow through with it.

The One-Box Method

Grab an empty box (or bag) and spend just 10-15 minutes in any room. Your goal? Fill that box with anything you no longer need, use, or love. These might be things that:

  • Are broken or no longer work

  • Don’t serve a purpose anymore

  • Haven’t been used or worn in the last year

Once your box is full, take a moment to appreciate what you’ve accomplished. You’ve just created space, both physically and mentally, without the overwhelm of a huge project!

One Room at a Time

Next, pick one room or area in your home and repeat the process. Maybe it’s the junk drawer in the kitchen, the bathroom cabinet, or that pile of shoes in the entryway. As you move through each space, you’ll notice how much easier it becomes to let go. And the more clutter you clear, the lighter and more organized your home will feel.

Small Wins Add Up

Decluttering isn’t about achieving a perfectly minimalist space in one day. It’s about taking small steps toward creating a more intentional, peaceful environment. With every box you fill, you’re making progress—and that progress is worth celebrating!

So, if you’re tired of clutter, take the first step today.
